Description
The 1970 Plymouth Superbird is an iconic muscle Car known for its distinctive design and performance capabilities. It is part of the Chrysler Corporation’s Winged Warriors series, which also included the Dodge Charger Daytona. The Superbird was developed primarily for NASCAR racing and was produced in limited numbers, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item today.The Superbird was conceived in response to NASCAR’s increasing popularity and the need for manufacturers to create high-performance vehicles that could compete on the racetrack.They featured a unique aerodynamic design, most notably its elongated nose and an enormous rear wing. These elements were engineered to improve downforce at high speeds and enhance stability. The Car was based on the Plymouth Road Runner but had significant modifications, including a New front end that accommodated the aerodynamic nose and a split grille design. The rear wing was a defining characteristic, standing nearly 3 feet tall. Production was limited with only 1,935 cars built for One year only and it is estimated less than 1,000 survive today.This particular example is equipped with a 440 cubic inch, 375 hp motor coupled to a 727 Torqueflight 3-speed automatic transmission and is One of only 626 built with a 4 barrel 440ci and automatic transmission. She is finished in the high impact color of Lemon Twist, (One of an estimated 350 in this color) with a black vinyl roof and black interior. Copies of the window sticker and broadcast build sheet also accompany the Car. The partial VIN number stamped on the block and the transmission are the same as the dash VIN, and fender tag. An older full restoration that still shows incredibly well with excellent panel Fit and drives wonderfully. Equally ideal for a well established private collection or to be used and enjoyed…be prepared for a lot of thumbs up, pictures and envious glances when taken out for a spin!
